As a brand, we have a footprint. As a consumer, you have a footprint too. We created 100% plastic-free products to reduce our contribution to the plastic pollution crisis. And now, we wanted to make it easier for you to reduce your footprint too.
Buy 1, Remove 9x
Did you know that for every plastic product recycled globally, 9 are not? That’s why for every plastic-free AORA product sold, we remove 9x the waste of equivalent plastic products through our partnership with rePurpose Global.
Going Plastic Negative
The beauty industry is a significant contributor to the global waste crisis. Despite advances in sustainability, 95% of beauty packaging is still made from plastic, composed of mixed materials, or in sizes too small to be processed by recycling facilities— all major factors that inhibit recyclability. As a result, of the 120 billion plastic packaging units produced annually by the beauty industry, most end up in landfills or polluting the environment.
This is why it isn’t enough to be a 100% plastic-free brand today. Some of us have to be plastic negative to clean up the trash of our industry.
Beauty packaging often consists of mixed materials– such as plastic, metal, and composites, that are difficult or even impossible for conventional recycling systems to process.
Most material recovery facilities (MRFs) cannot process small items, including most beauty packaging. Plastics smaller than roughly three inches jam recycling equipment and are ultimately treated as waste.
Most black plastic beauty packaging is colored with carbon black pigments, which are undetectable by Near Infra-Red (NIR) technology—a key method used in plastic recycling.
